Maria Helena Horta

Doctor – with International Mention – in Teacher Training: professional development of teachers for a multicultural education, by the University of Huelva. Master of Science in Education, in the area of specialization in Early Childhood Education. Graduated in the field of specialization of Special Education and Educational Support. Bachelor in Early Childhood Education.

She worked as a Kindergarten Educator for five years and since 2002 she has been a professor at the University of Algarve, belonging to the Department of Social Sciences and Education of the Escola Superior de Educação e Comunicação. She is currently director of the Masters in Pre-School Education.

Her area of research has been linked to the development of orality and written language in early childhood education, in particular, and teacher training/professional development, in general. She has numerous publications (books, book chapters, e-book chapters, articles, proceedings of national and international congresses) and communications presented at education congresses.

She is a regular member of the Interdisciplinary Center for Children and Adolescents (NICA) of the University of the Azores (UAc) and is qualified as a trainer, awarded by the Scientific-Pedagogical Council for Continuing Education. She is Regional Delegate in the Algarve and trainer of the Training Center of the Association of Early Childhood Education Professionals (APEI).
