On the 1st of February 2020, another philosophies: workshops on philosophies and childhood took place at the University of the Azores, in Ponta Delgada. It was a meeting that promoted a series of simultaneous philosophy sessions with different groups of children, and which had about 200 elementary school students from the Armando Côrtes-Rodrigues Basic and Secondary School, in Vila Franca do Campo. The children were accompanied by teachers, family members and guardians and the activities were guided by specialists in the area, current and former students of the Masters in Philosophy for Children at UAc, who were in Ponta Delgada on the occasion of another face-to-face meeting of the course.

This Master, which works in a Distance Learning regime, has about 25 students, a third of which are international (residents in Argentina and Brazil). Some of these students were present at the event, who came to Uac from the Portuguese mainland and also from Brazil.

The 2nd philosophies were organized by the philosophy project team of EBS Armando Côrtes-Rodrigues, by the NICA: Interdisciplinary Center for Children and Adolescents and by the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, both from the University of the Azores. It also had the support of the Vila Franca do Campo City Council and Panivila. This school is the only one in the Azores with a structured philosophy project with children, started in 2014/2015, which involves, in the current school year, 27 classes (from preschool to 7th grade), covering about 600 children, with regular and ongoing sessions of philosophical dialogue in the community. In this way, the philosophy for children is an identity mark of this School, recognized in its Educational Project, and is part of the ProSucesso strategy of that Organic Unit.

At the same time, the School has been working in partnership with the University of the Azores through a protocol signed in 2015, reaffirming the pioneering work that our Academy has developed in the area of philosophy for children, being the only one in the country (and one of the few in the world ) to offer a Master's degree in this area (on a distance basis).

Philosophy for Children began as a practical philosophy program, started in the US in the 70s and today encompasses a vast set of practices and discourses that interrelate philosophy and childhood.
