Susana Mira Leal

She is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at the University of the Azores. She holds a PhD in Education, in the specialty of Portuguese Teaching Methodology, a master's degree in Pedagogical Supervision, in the specialty of Portuguese Teaching Methodology, and a degree in Modern Languages and Literature, in the Portuguese-English variant (teaching of).

She is currently Rector of the Unuversity of the Azores and having been Pro-Rector for External Relations and Cultural Extension at the University of the Azores, and Pro-Rector for External Relations, Society and Complementary Training and Director of the Department of Education Sciences at that University. She is an integrated member of the Interdisciplinary Center for Social Sciences of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, center of the University of the Azores (CICS-Nova-UAc). She is a member of the International Association for the Improvement of Mother Tongue Education (IAMTE) since 2008, of the Portuguese Society of Education Sciences (SPCE) since 2013 and of the Scientific Committee of the Réseaux d'Excellence des Territoires Insulaires (RETI) since 2015.

Has developed her teaching work mainly in the areas of Portuguese didactics, pedagogical supervision, design and management of training and curriculum development, having as main research interests the teaching policies and practices of language, the processes and modes of curricular appropriation carried out by teachers and school textbooks, the training of kindergarten teachers and teachers, the professional development of teachers and adult education.
